Media Production Specialist
Southwestern Law School seeks a creative and tech-savvy professional to join the team as a Media Production Specialist. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 2D post-production and experience with video production for education, graphic design, and multimedia content creation. Core duties will include creating and editing explainer videos (lectures, roundtable discussions, narrated slide decks, etc.); creating graphics and other multimedia content; and working closely with faculty and our instructional design team to develop engaging, innovative content for online law school courses.
The Instructional Media Production Specialist position reports to the Technology Team Lead. The position is full-time, hourly and hybrid position, with weekly in-person work required. The ideal start date is January 2025.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with instructional designers and faculty to design, develop, and produce high-quality video content for online courses and ensure all media content aligns with established learning objectives and accessibility standards.
- Edit video content using professional editing software, including color grading, sound editing, and visual effects. Also edit longer videos into “bite-size” (15-20 minute) classroom videos.
- Create video motion graphics, animations, and other multimedia elements to enhance course content and engage learners.
- Handle post-production matters, such as voiceovers.
- Operate video, audio, and lighting equipment to ensure optimal recording quality.
- Assist faculty in developing and delivering screen capture videos, recorded video lectures, and narrated slide decks.
- Assist faculty in digitizing and curating film clips and lecture presentations for asynchronous instruction.
- Advise faculty on various aspects of pre-production (script review), production (filming), and post-production (editing and graphics).
- Provide on-camera coaching and direction to faculty members to ensure their comfort and effectiveness in delivering content on screen.
- Assist in managing media assets, including proper organization, storage, and archiving.
- Stay current on industry trends, tools, and best practices in instructional media production and provide recommendations for improvement and innovation.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Film Production, Media Arts, Graphic Design) or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in video production, editing, and multimedia content creation.
- Ability to demonstrate video editing ability with a strong portfolio.
- Proficiency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Davinci Resolve, Camtasia, or Avid Media Composer.
- Proficiency in creating and utilizing Motion Graphics Templates (MOGRTs) within Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to streamline video production workflows.
- Expertise in PowerPoint, Canva and other presentation tools.
- Proficiency in graphic design and motion graphics software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects) or equivalent tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Strong understanding of audio and video equipment, including cameras, microphones, lighting, teleprompters, and other production gear.
- Proficient in chroma keying techniques, specifically utilizing green screens, to composite backgrounds seamlessly during post-production.
- Experience in handling and producing a high volume of video projects at once, with strong organizational skills to maintain quality and meet deadlines.
- Experience using a learning management system (LMS), particularly Canvas.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present ideas and collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
- Experience in e-learning, instructional design, or a related field is a plus.
Salary Range: $28.82- $38.00/hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
