Southwestern Law School Announces Katarina Monzon as 2026 Commencement Singer

Graduating Full-time Day student Katarina Monzon will serve as the student singer at Southwestern Law School’s 111th annual Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Rose Bowl.

A lifelong vocalist and first-generation law student, Monzon began performing at age five and developed her musical foundation as a lead bilingual cantor at St. Mary Magdalene, her home parish. She currently serves as a cantor at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Hancock Park, providing music for liturgical services, weddings, and funerals.

Her musical accomplishments include being selected as soprano soloist for Mozart’s Requiem at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in November 2025, and performing the national anthem at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in September 2025 during a ceremony honoring local government workers. At Southwestern, Monzon has been a member of Bisong, the law school’s campus a cappella group, since her first year and currently serves as its co-president.

“Being selected as the commencement singer for the Class of 2026 is an incredible honor,” Monzon said. “This opportunity reflects the hard work, perseverance, and dedication that carried me through law school, as well as the role music has played throughout my life. I am grateful to contribute something personal and heartfelt to such an important milestone for my graduating class.”

After graduation, Monzon plans to practice workers’ compensation defense with Tobin Lucks LLP, where she will continue building on the experience she gained during her spring clerkship with the firm. She also plans to continue pursuing her passion for the arts as a cantor at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
