Doreen Heyer has served in a number of capacities at Southwestern since joining the staff in 1980. She provided administrative support to the SCALE Program as well as for other aspects of the academic and co-curricular programs for a number of years. In 1988, she was appointed as Assistant Dean for Academic Success; in 2008, she was promoted to Associate Dean for Academic Administration; and in 2012, she was promoted to Senior Associate Dean for Academic Administration. In her current capacity, Dean Heyer prepares the academic calendar and schedule of classes. She coordinates adjunct faculty teaching assignments, the faculty evaluation process, and the faculty recruitment process, and provides administrative support to most faculty committees. She also directs aspects of the annual Intramural Moot Court Program and other academic-related events. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of the law school, Dean Heyer was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Southwestern in 2008.
With a vital interest in environmental and other community concerns, Dean Heyer has volunteered for a number of organizations, most recently as a mentor with the Bridges to the Future Program. A unique partnership involving the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Departments of Children and Family Services and Probation, the program pairs foster youth transitioning to adulthood with concerned professionals who provide support and serve as role models.
