3/23/20 - Notification of Possible COVID-19 Report

Body

Dear Southwestern Community Members,

Notification of Possible COVID-19 Report

Under the Clery Act, which requires the Law School to share certain information with the community, we are writing to share that a Southwestern student who is a resident of the Residence at 7th is self-quarantining at the Residences and waiting to be tested for the flu and COVID-19.  While a diagnosis is pending, in an abundance of caution and concern for our community, we are sharing this information. We will provide an update to the community as soon as one becomes available.

Southwestern has not reduced maintenance staffing on campus during remote operations. Maintenance has continued to service high touch areas (e.g. elevators, stairwells, restrooms, common areas, etc.) to ensure the safety of our residents.

We will send updates to the community via email. You can also check our website, https://www.swlaw.edu/covid19, for continuous updates and helpful information.

How can I help protect myself?

Preventative steps recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html and  http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/.

What if I suspect I have coronavirus?

If you think you may have been exposed to coronavirus and have these flu-like symptoms (fever, shortness of breath or a cough), please call ahead before visiting a doctor’s office or emergency department. This will enable your care providers to determine the best way for you to receive care.

Students with symptoms:  Please contact your medical provider and provide an update to deanofstudents@swlaw.edu.

Faculty and staff with symptoms:  Please contact your medical provider and provide an update to mcanal@swlaw.edu.

Non-Discrimination Policy: It is important for community members to support one another during this time. Discrimination or stigmatization of community members should be reported to deanofstudents@swlaw.edu and will be investigated

Sincerely,
/Michael Carter/
