In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, local officials announced new orders this evening that require non-essential retail businesses to close, reinforce the need for social distancing, and requiring citizens to stay at home except for essential activities.
Based on this updated guidance, we are accelerating our move to a reduced on-campus operations model immediately. This temporary transition will continue at least through April 10. Again, this remote transition does not apply to essential staff and vendors on campus, such as Campus Security, Maintenance, Mailroom staff, and essential IT staff.
If any other staff member has personal belongings or essential items needed to work remotely at Southwestern, they are to come to campus by the morning of Friday, March 20th, 2020, to collect these items. All remote staff members should be off campus by noon on Friday. After staff members have gathered this material, they should return home to set up their remote environment. Every remote staff member is to email his/her supervisor once they are ready to begin their workday. Additional information will be sent via email.
Educational institutions, such as Southwestern, are considered essential services and are exempt from the local order "for purposes of facilitating distance learning or performing essential functions provided that social distancing of six-feet per person is maintained to the greatest extent possible."
All employees, regardless of their time on campus, are to maintain social distancing of six-feet per person to the greatest extent possible.
We thank you for your flexibility in this matter as the situation unfolds.
