Upon receiving her J.D. from Southwestern, Professor Vargas served as a trial attorney in Inner City Law Center’s Tenant Defense Project representing indigent tenants facing eviction. She has obtained favorable verdicts for tenants in jury and bench trials and works to preserve tenants’ rights and rent-controlled homes on a daily basis.

While a student at Southwestern, Professor Vargas participated in the Ninth Circuit Appellate Litigation Clinic where she assisted in the representation of an undocumented immigrant in deportation proceedings. Additionally, she clerked for the Los Angeles Air Force Base, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and the Central American Resource Center.

Professor Vargas’s career demonstrates a commitment to public interest work. She pursues opportunities to mentor students interested in representing clients who would otherwise face barriers to legal representation.
