Legal Writing for LL.M. students is designed for entering LL.M. students. Only students who are members of Southwestern's LL.M. programs are eligible for this course.

The course is intended for students who received their first degree in law from a law school outside of the United States, and registration is by invitation only.

The course has four major components:

  1. an introduction to the format and style of legal writing appropriate in American law practice, including memos, briefs, letters, etc.;
  2. an introduction to the documents frequently encountered in American law practice;
  3. a brief introduction to U.S. legal citation; and,
  4. a brief introduction to legal research skills.
