Effective communication is a critical skill for the successful practice of law. This course focuses on the skills needed to effectively communicate by teaching students the skills of active listening and effective messaging. Critical communication skills will be discussed, analyzed, and presented in written and oral form, in both criminal and civil contexts.

Additionally, the course explores the skills of active listening and effective messaging to five distinct audiences:

  1. senior partners or supervising attorneys,
  2. opposing counsel,  
  3. juries,
  4. courts, and,
  5. clients.
